The Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service

The Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service

The Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service event, originally scheduled for Thursday, November 15, has been POSTPONED due to impending inclement weather. NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania made this decision out of an abundance of caution for guests, honorees, and event staff. The event has been rescheduled for TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 6 p.m., at the Hilton Scranton & Conference Center. If you reserved a seat individually or through a sponsorship, it will be honored that evening.

There are individuals in our community who, like NeighborWorks, have faithfully invested their time and talents to improve the quality of life of residents in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service, named in tribute to the late governor, acknowledges their efforts and, most importantly, allows the rest of us to learn from their service.

“Thank you for your support of NeighborWorks and the Governor Robert P. Casey Medal for a Lifetime of Service event. Our honorees represent the true spirit of NEPA—leaders and friends who consider a lifetime of service a privilege. Your purchase of a ticket, sponsorship, ad in the tribute book, all help families who need a home. NeighborWorks is the foremost provider of innovative and affordable housing services to moderate income families in NEPA. I am grateful for the partnership of community friends and businesses who help make homeownership a reality through this event.” – Jesse Ergott, President & CEO

Reverend Herbert B. Keller, S.J.

With him there is no pretense. He is who he is and those he has strived to serve have always been the better for it. His wisdom is deep, his good counsel is often sought, his kindness is genuine and accessible. Yet, his reserved demeanor does mask much. His deep passion for service is all but reserved, it is powerful and penetrating. His brilliance in the molding of young hearts and minds has been bold and striking. His magis-driven leadership is inspiring, infectious and at times heroic. While Father Keller is quintessentially all that we hope to find in every man, his life truly remains a uniquely singular exemplar of intentionally living ad majorem dei gloriam – all for the greater glory of God.

Rabbi Daniel Swartz

While perhaps best known in our community as a man of God bringing his great gifts of guidance and wisdom as spiritual leader of Temple Hesed, he is truly a man of visionary community action in so many more ways. A gentleman of deep faith, tremendous conviction and boundless energy, Rabbi Swartz generously utilizes his passion in active advocacy of God’s creation. As the head of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, he deepens and broadens the Jewish community’s commitment to stewardship and protection of the Earth. He seeks to expand the contemporary understanding of such Jewish values as tikkun olam (repairing the world) and tzedek
(justice) to include the protection of both people and other species from environmental degradation. Whether on the global stage or in the epicenter of our own valley community, he persistently and thoroughly gives of himself for the betterment of all.
