NWNEPA offers a variety of workshops for homebuyers and anyone who wants to better manage their finances.
Financial Education Workshop
If buying a home is not part of your future plans or you’d like to be a homeowner but don’t know where to start, this workshop is for you. The financial education workshop discusses everyday information such as pay stubs, employee benefits, future planning, saving and investing, understanding taxes, managing your risks, additional insurances, and how to get, use, and manage credit. This course is designed for individuals who want to learn how to understand their current financial situation and improve it. This workshop is 6 hours and is completed in two parts.
Homebuyer Education Workshop
This workshop is specially designed for anyone interested in purchasing a home. Learn the pros and cons of owning, requirements and qualifications for lending, how credit impacts the decision making process, the purchase process, shopping for a home, how to protect yourself and your money, and how closing your new home will work. This workshop has guest speakers that include lenders, realtors, insurance agents, inspectors, and attorneys! This workshop counts toward the Homebuyer Education Course Certification, a requirement for many lending products and First Time Homebuyer Assistance Programs.
Pre-closing workshops are for homebuyers who are receiving lending or financing products from PHFA (Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency). Many lenders in NEPA offer PHFA loans. This course is a requirement if your credit score is below 680 and are going to be closing soon on a home. Your lender will provide you with a referral for pre-closing counseling and you must bring it to the workshop. This is a 2-hour workshop and can also be done as a one-on-one session.
